Welcome to the Giles website! Do you like walking in the Yorkshire Dales? Then look no further! This web site is to advertise my Yorkshire Dales 'Pub in the Middle' Circular Walks books. The main motivation for writing these books was to design walks that have a good food and fine ale pub in the middle. The objective is to have the majority of the difficult walking done prior to lunch to work up a good appetite. The post-lunch walk is usually a gentle ramble back to the car. All these quality walks and pubs(!) are extensively tested prior to publication.

Winter dales walking is recommended as it is quieter and once moving, you don’t feel the cold. It is, however, important to take notice of the walking times, as it becomes darker earlier. In winter, the pub in the middle is a welcome refuge, especially in bad weather. I have included web links for the pubs and local places of interest, so that the area can be researched prior to your visit.

Please note that the footpath section alongside The River Cover of the Book 1 Middleham to The Blue Lion at East Witton walk after the Coverbridge Inn is closed due to erosion. The alternative route we have taken is to retrace your steps back over The River Cover using the bridge, then follow the River Cover upstream on the other bank crossing the field stiles where necessary. At the large stepping stones, cross back over the river to return to the book route.
